Sunshine School in Oro Valley provides the kind of environment that I believe every parent wants for their child. An atmosphere of kindness and acceptance, respect and courtesy, hard work and fun play is exemplified by dedicated teachers and staff. The educators' love for the children and teaching cultivates a positive environment where learning happens best. Creativity and curiosity are encouraged. The walls are decorated with art displays from students past and present. An expansive library of books and supply of favorite play toys provides children with quality free time activities. An expansive outside play area is facilitated with lots of natural elements and play equipment. Being married to one of the earliest graduates of Sunshine School I might be a little bias, but I believe Sunshine School knows how to nurture preschoolers to become lifelong learners and caring adults.

I LOVE Sunshine School! Upon first glance, I thought the school looked like nothing special, but I was wrong! As soon as I met with Sue, I knew it was the place for my son. The thing I love most about Sunshine is the feeling it gives me. Sunshine is a very loving, welcoming place. I feel very comfortable leaving my son for three hours because I know he’ll be safe and that he’ll learn and have fun. On the first day of school, my son was welcomed with open arms and made to feel comfortable. Sue even hugged me at the gate and told me it would be okay. It is obvious that the staff love my son and that they love our whole family. I can’t wait for my daughter to be old enough to attend Sunshine!

Dear Sue and the teachers at Sunshine School, This year, I am privileged to have 4 students from Sunshine School in my Kindergarten class. I want you to know that they are very well prepared students! They respect learning, listen to others and demonstrate leadership skills. They are beginning readers who know the pre-reading strategies and connections. The four are in the same language arts group, as it turns out, because they all possess the same level of readiness and seriousness at reading time. In math, they are all in my higher group. It is not just the academics that are tops, but they all stay on task and can pace themselves through their work. Thank you for preparing them to be caring, cooperative citizens in the classroom. You gave them a fabulous foundation! I recommend Sunshine School whenever I can and look forward to teaching more students from your school.
Letter from Natalie Freiburger, Kindergarten Teacher at Green Fields Country Day School, September 21, 2011
The Sunshine School in Oro Valley has a stellar reputation among Tucson-area teachers, and for good reason. In the hands of a nurturing and loving group of teachers and staff members your curious and untamed toddler will be transformed into a successful and inquisitive student well—prepared to handle the kindergarten environment. We came to Sunshine on the recommendation of a friend who couldn’t say enough positive things about the school, and found that her glowing report was well-deserved. We were welcomed by the school’s director Sue into a wonderful, warm learning environment. Sue made me feel right at home and I knew immediately that I would be happy to entrust her with my precious child.
What initially impressed me was the way in which the students were so actively engaged in their learning, and I knew I wanted my son to be a part of that world. From the outside of the school, you would never guess that to the side and in back is a play yard to be envied, where the children can further engage their imagination while developing their gross motor skills on climbers, swings, sandboxes and bikes. In the classroom, children learn how to write their letters, both capital and lowercase,in the innovative Handwriting Without Tears program. The classroom experience is enriched by a varied and amazing selection of centers that include everything from music and foreign languages to art and life skills. The school’s library is full for both student’s and parent’s use. While your child learns about borrowing books, you have the opportunity to peruse parenting resources and guides to help you.
For me, the commute to the school was long and tedious, but in the end well-worth it. I would drive miles to have my kids benefit from such a wonderful and unparalleled learning environment. As my son continues to blossom in his kindergarten class, his teacher said to me that the best advice she could give me for my younger daughter would be to send her to Sunshine.

What impresses me the most, aside from the phenomenal curriculum and caring staff, is the fact that after 25 years in the preschool business, Sunshine School continues to improve their processes. The communication between parents and staff is outstanding. Weekly newsletters and calendars keep us up to date with the latest activities and events. Parental involvement is encouraged and our feedback is heard. This is my son’s first preschool experience and it couldn’t have been more positive. He will be returning in the fall for a second year and his little sister will be joining him!

I’ve sent all three of my children to Sunshine starting in 1998. The experience each one of them has had has enriched their lives and got them off to a terrific start in school. In fact, my 13 year old son still talks about Sunshine fondly and eagerly recommends it to all who ask. My daughter doesn’t want to leave Sunshine for kindergarten, she considers this school hers. We will be sad to say goodbye to Sunshine in May.

All three of our boys are “graduates” of Sunshine Preschool in Oro Valley. To say that we were pleased with our experience at this preschool would be an understatement. For our oldest son, we asked nearly every parent we knew about the choices for preschools in Tucson. We wanted a preschool that focused on developing our precious boys through art, play, hands-on activities, and academics into “big” boys ready to go to Kindergarten. During our 5 years at Sunshine school, our boys had a handful of different teachers. Although each teacher had their own unique qualities, we loved each and every one of them and the staff too! We feel blessed for our boys to have had such an extraordinary preschool education and would recommend anyone looking at preschools to consider Sunshine Preschool.
